Introducing one of our newest board members:
Julie Kang has worked in public education for over 15 years as a classroom teacher and mentor and as a faculty member in the University of Washington college of education. She earned a MA in Education Administration and National Board Certification in 1999. In 2008, she earned a Doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction from the University of Washington. Her research interests include professional development opportunities and equity issues related to teachers of color, bilingual and multicultural education.
She currently works with the Title/LAP/ELL families in the Shoreline School District as the Parent Academic Liaison. Kang’s other academic interests include early childhood and special education.
Kang volunteers in the community to educate early-childhood program providers and teachers through the Annual Crib to Classroom Conferences, North FACES, and Love and Logic. She loves traveling (most recently to the Galapagos Islands), reading, being mom to daughter Katherine, and conducting oral histories with veteran teachers of color.
